A Few Days Home

After the six week marathon was over we had a chance to come back to Chicago for a few days of family time. We got to play in the snow, put up a "Christmas tree" and even take a train ride down town to visit the Christkindlmarkt.

We also learned that using leftover Halloween candy isn't the best way to decorate a snowman.

Between Halloween & Therese B-day

The first week of November our children's daycare informed us that Therese was still not adapting. They said she was sad/crying most of the day, she has not been back to daycare since. This did however cause quite a challenge for our family as Jackie was just starting a new rotation, Mark had a busy year to finish up and our "family support" lives about 300 miles away. After many long discussions and no good solutions, we decided to take the kids to Michigan to live between Mark's and Jackie's parents for six weeks. Mark's sister Amy and cousin Shelia agreed to help watching John and Therese during the day while Mark worked most of the rest of the year from Michigan. Jackie stayed in Chicago and finished her rotation but spent the weekends driving back and forth to make sure the family was together.

Thanks to everyone who help those long six weeks. Here are a few pictures that we took during those six weeks.

St. Joseph's Beach

Our Family had the opportunity to go to the beach in MI for the night over the labor day holiday. It was a fun adventure! We stayed at an independently owned hotel. It looked nice enough when we checked in it was an older hotel that had been refurbished. All new inside, except for the plumbing. We noticed the ceiling leaking in the hallway on our way to the beach. Good thing it was not in our room, no big deal. The kids enjoyed the sand & John was able to stay awake to see the fireworks show at 10pm. Afterward, we got back to the room and settled into sleep. However, about 2:30am the fire alarm when off. We woke up groggy and were not sure if it was real or not. So better safe then sorry we each grabbed a kid and briskly walked the 5 flights of stairs. There was smoke in the stairwell and it smelled like something was burning. We joined other hotel guests outside then headed to our car. Wondering where the fire department was. Eventually, 45 minutes later the fire department showed up and it turned out someone burned popcorn on the floor beneath us and that the leaking ceiling had short circuited the fire alarm. Good thing there was not a real fire because 45 minutes might have been a problematic response time. We were tired the next day but glad for God's safety. Our wonderful son found Gideon Bible in the room and proceeded to read through it and pray "Dear Lord" at the side of the bed. I love hearing him pray to God these days he has a wealth of vocabulary and it fills my heart to see him say prayers to God. Even if some prayers are dominated by the characters from "Bob the Builder". He is understanding the importance of God in our family life and I pray that he will understand the importance of what Christ has done for little precious John!
Waiting for fireworks.
