Waking up Uncle Kyle

Up North Vacation

Here I am enjoying the room my parents call the "New Room". I think it was an addition put on circa 1970. I guess things just move slower in this place called "Up North". And about this "Up North" term. Does that mean we were in Canada or are Michigan residents truely the only people who vacation to the north and within there own state? Well anyway I loved the trees "Up North" and hope to go back soon.

Little Man

John has sooo many facial expressions and is really fun to play with. As you've seen he's starting to move around, in no time at all he'll be getting in to trouble. I can't wait.

Education Priority

Mom decided to decelerate last week for the sake of John's education. He just couldn't keep up and the daycare was not teaching him at the rate we wished. Please pray as we consider new childcare options.

Thank you Auntie Vicky

For those of you who are not Chinese or spent time with many friends in a Chinese Christian Church Aunt and Uncle are terms used for elders that you know well. (At least that is the impression I have.)
Vicky Wang spent half her day in both June and July taking care of our Son. Giving him lots of individual attention, developmental play, and love. Also, allowing mom the opportunity to sneak home from class see her buba John and continue to give him the best nutrition nature provides. What a huge blessing! We praise God for giving Vicky the heart to minister to our family in this way.

Scooting

Inching off my play mat, joining in at dinner, and meeting new friends I am always on the move! Why did daddy have to lay down all day :o)

By Request

So, since Grandma Childs doesn't believe that her grandson smiles at dad we did some creatative photoshop work to prove her wrong. As you can guess he was smiling at mom, but we cropped her out and put dad in her place.

Also we thought you might enjoy two other fictious pictures, the first one is a picture of a clean baby, you now that can't be real. The second is a picture of John learning to fly.

The IV Connection

So, you may ask yourself why do Mark and Jackie go to a Chinese Christian Church.

Self: Are they Chinese?
Answer: No

Self: Do they want to be Chinese?
Answer: Not particularly

Self: Do they speak Chinese, or do they want to learn?
Answer: No, maybe some day but probably not

So, as most interesting stories do, not that this is an interesting story, it starts in college.

Both Jackie and I were a part of a Christina organization called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship while attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn. When Jackie found out that she was going to be coming to IL to go to graduate school at the Chicago Medical School our regional IVCF staff worker, Ann Beyerline, told Jackie she had the contact info of a Dr. Jennie Hsieh, who had graduated from CMS and is a Doctor in the Chicago area. Ann knew Dr. Hsieh from her days of being a staff worker at Northwestern University.

So, before Jackie moved out to IL she contacted Dr. Hsieh to find out more about CMS and get an idea about the area. Jackie asked Dr. Hsieh if she knew of any churches near the CMS and Dr. Hsieh told Jackie of a few churches in the area and one called North Shore Chinese Christian Church that Dr. Hsieh currently attends and attended while going to medical school at CMS.

So since Jackie wanted to thank Dr. Hsieh in person for her helpfulness she decided to go to NSCCC once and say thank you before checking out other churches in the greater North Shore region. Although the people at NSCCC were nice, Jackie decided that she would continue her search for a church to attend while at CMS. The next week she went to another more well known big church in the area, no not that one that rhymes with pillow, but in retrospect really felt more welcomed at the church were almost everyone was different then her, so for week three she thought she’d give that Chinese Church another visit and hasn’t gone any were else since.
